HANCOCK, MI (April 3, 2025) – Industrial technology teachers from across the Copper Country have shown their support for Camp Josh in Ontonagon through the donation of items crafted by students in their industrial technology classes for the camp's annual fundraiser and banquet.

Representatives from Camp Josh recently visited the Copper Country Intermediate School District (CCISD) Career Tech Center to collect an impressive array of student-made items donated by the Calumet, Chassell, Hancock, Houghton, Jeffers, Lake Linden-Hubbell, and L’Anse High School Industrial Technology teachers along with the CCISD’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Construction Technology and Welding & Manufacturing instructors.

The donated items were a showcase of the remarkable talents of local high school students and included cribbage boards, cutting boards, mancala boards, a cornhole set, an epoxy wood and steel side table, benches, Lake Superior clock, U.P. metal artwork and signs. These student-made items were included in Camp Josh's annual fundraiser auction this past Saturday, March 29th, at the Konteka in White Pine.

Corey Soumis, CCISD CTE Director, and organizer of the collection said, "I was first introduced to Camp Josh a few years ago. Back then I taught industrial technology classes in Calumet with Rob Bohlsen and he agreed it’d be a great opportunity for our students to get involved with. In my new role with the CCISD I thought we should invite all local industrial technology teachers to come together and have their students’ work represent not only their individual schools, but the Copper Country as a whole.”

"We are continually amazed by the quality and craftsmanship of items created by these talented students," said Jim Bobula, Camp Josh Board Member. "These items alone brought in an estimated $6000.00 of crucial funds for our programs.  This effort was a fantastic example of the Copper Country’s support of Camp Josh and our mission of providing outdoor recreational opportunities for people with disabilities, senior citizens, and veterans."

Camp Josh, located in Ontonagon, operates with the motto "We Measure Success in Smiles" and relies on community support and fundraising events to maintain and expand its programming.
