SB-CEU Frequently Asked
Questions
-
Who can use
SB-CEUs for renewal?
Persons holding a
Professional
Education
certificate, an
Occupational
Education
certificate, a
School Psychologist
certificate, and a
School Guidance
Counselor
certificate.
-
I don’t have
my first 18 credit
hours finished yet.
Can I use SB-CEUs to
renew? No,
you have to hold a
Professional
teaching certificate
or one of the others
listed above in
order to use SB-CEUs
for certificate
renewal.
-
Can I convert
SB-CEUs into college
credit? No.
-
I will be
applying for (or
renewing) my
professional
certificate this
coming June. Can I
collect SB-CEUs now
to use for renewal
of my certificate
for the next renewal
period? No.
You cannot “hold
over” SB-CEU credits
to the next renewal
period. For example
– you renew your
professional
certificate for June
of 2008. You have
already taken enough
classes to have
college credit to
renew your
certificate with and
would like to begin
collecting SB-CEUs
to put toward your
renewal in 2013.
The SB-CEUs you
collect up to June
30th,
2008 can only be
used to renew your
certificate that
expires on June 30th,
2008.
-
I have an
appointment (Doctor,
Dentist,
Chiropractor, etc.)
scheduled during the
day of a workshop.
Can I leave the
workshop and come
back, still
receiving my SB-CEUs?
No, unless the
appointment happens
during a break or
lunch and you have
returned by the time
the workshop
officially starts
again. The state
requires that you
are in attendance
for the entire
workshop.
-
I’ve lost my
copy of the
certificate I
received at the
workshop – can I get
a replacement?/Can I
get a copy of all of
my SB-CEUs I’ve
received?
The CCISD will issue
an official
transcript for you
of all the SB-CEUs
you’ve received
through us for a
$5.00 charge. Any
workshops you’ve
attended at other
ISDs or through the
state will need to
issue you a separate
transcript. Fill
out the form on
website and send it
in or drop it off to
the general
education secretary
along with $5 and we
will issue you a
transcript within 7
days.
-
I have to
arrive late/leave
early from a
workshop.
Can I still receive
my SB-CEUs?
The state
requires you to be
in attendance for
the entire workshop
in order to receive
SB-CEUs for that
activity. Some
programs have a
little flexibility
built in to allow
for up to a 10
minute late arrival
time but not all, so
plan to arrive
early if you’d
like to receive SB-CEUs.
-
I forgot to
sign-in or out/turn
in my sign-out
form. Can I still
get SB-CEUs?
All persons
requesting SB-CEUs
must sign-in and out
of workshops and
credit cannot be
awarded if
signatures are not
found on the
official forms.
-
I forgot to
request credit for a
workshop I attended
last year.
Can I still get it?
Credit needs to
be requested at the
workshop you’ve
attended.
-
Why do you
need my social
security number for
SB-CEUs?
When the SB-CEU program
began at the CCISD, we
needed a unique number
that an individual could
remember for every
program they took
through us. The
recommendation at that
time was to use the
Social Security number
since that was the
number displayed on the
teaching certificate.
The state was also
hoping that eventually,
we would be able to
merge our database with
a statewide database of
all SB-CEU programs
offered and taken in the
state and in order to
receive an online
transcript; a teacher
would need their social
security number to
access their personal
information. The
statewide database is
still a direction the
state hopes to move to
eventually. However,
with identity theft
issues, people are
naturally hesitant to
give others their social
security number and we
try to be sensitive to
this. You only need to
put your entire social
security number into our
system once and then
after that, we need the
last 4 digits. Or, you
are welcome to call the
general education office
after a program and give
the secretary your
social security number.
We keep our database in
a double-locked system.
-
I’m going to a
conference and I’d
like to get SB-CEUs
for it. Can I?
If you get a copy of
the conference
agenda prior to 45
days, you can turn
it into the SB-CEU
coordinator and
apply for SB-CEUs.
At the conference,
you will need to get
the presenters of
each session to
sign-off on an
attendance
verification form
for you and you will
need to turn
everything into the
general education
office within 30
days of attending
the conference.
-
I attended a
conference/workshop
where they didn’t
offer SB-CEUs. Is
there any way to get
credit for
attending?
No. All SB-CEU
applications must be
approved prior to
attending the
activity. The state
requires a minimum
30 day application
for credit, so in
this case, you would
have needed to
follow the procedure
in #11.
-
My school is
having an inservice
day. Can I
get SB-CEUs for it?
All districts have
the ability to apply
for SB-CEUs. Please
follow the
directions listed on
this web site and
submit an
application at
least 40 days
in advance.
