The
Career and Technical Education Center also serves the
adult population of the area. Selected classes are
offered for adults who wish to learn new skills to
improve their employability and/or simply wish to
broaden their educational horizons.
Adult
Enrichment Classes
Adult Nurse Aide Class
The Adult Nurse Aide class provides training for
students to obtain the skills necessary to take the
state of Michigan's competency evaluation exam to become
a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Upon successful
completion of the exam, students will have their name
placed on the state registry and will be eligible to
work as a nursing assistant in hospitals, nursing homes
and with health care agencies. This 120-hour course is a
combination of theory (80 hours) and clinical
instruction (40 hours), and covers the following topics:

Understanding the
process of becoming a CNA

Professionalism and
confidentiality
-
Losses promoting
independence
-
Emergency preparedness
-
Safety, including gait
belts and transferring and moving patients safely

Heimlich maneuver
-
Personal cares:
toileting, changing a Depends, B&B training, care of
the incontinent resident, bedpan and urinal

Nutrition and feeding a
resident
-
Dysphagia, fluid
balance, I&O, FAS, measuring intake and output
-
Nursing math, metric
system and military time
-
Alzheimer's, including
dementia
-
Dealing with difficult
behaviors
-
Vital Signs: TPR and BP,
ht. and wt.
-
Rehab care including
ROM, colostomy care, catheter care, care of the
resident with oxygen
-
Special skin care and
use of special mattresses
