The
Career and Technical Education Center also serves the
adult population of the area. Selected classes are
offered for adults who wish to learn new skills to
improve their employability and/or simply wish to
broaden their educational horizons.
Classes
that may be offered in the evening for adult enrollment
include Information Technology, Construction Technology,
Nursing Assistant, Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS)
Certification, Automotive Technology, and Residential
Electricity. All of the above classes except Nursing
Assistant take place at the Career and Technical
Education Center located at 110 E. Quincy Street in
Hancock. The Nursing Assistant class is housed in the
Houghton County Medical Care Facility at 1100 Quincy
Street in Hancock.

Classes offered may change from year to year depending
on the demand for a specific class, availability of a
qualified instructor, and state/federal funding levels.

Excel (Spreadsheets) for Beginners
A spreadsheet program is an accounting or bookkeeping
program that displays data in rows and columns on a
screen. A simple example of a useful spreadsheet
application is one that calculates mortgage payments for
a house.

Residential Construction for
Beginners
The Copper Country Intermediate School District is
offering an adult enrichment opportunity for those
adults who would like to expand their knowledge in the
area of residential rough carpentry. This class is
designed for the student who has little or no background
in the area of home construction. The class will meet
twice a week for four consecutive weeks and will cover
the following topics.

Adult Nurse Aide Class
The Adult Nurse Aide class provides training for
students to obtain the skills necessary to take the
state of Michigan's competency evaluation exam to become
a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Upon successful
completion of the exam, students will have their name
placed on the state registry and will be eligible to
work as a nursing assistant in hospitals, nursing homes
and with health care agencies. This 120-hour course is a
combination of theory (80 hours) and clinical
instruction (40 hours), and covers the following topics:

Understanding the
process of becoming a CNA

Professionalism and
confidentiality

Losses promoting
independence

Emergency preparedness

Safety, including gait
belts and transferring and moving patients safely

Heimlich maneuver
